Career-boosting opportunities are promised for IGS Young Members at the 13th International Conference on Geosynthetics (ICG).
IGS North America (IGS-NA) is set to stage the ICG in Montreal on September 13 – 17, 2026, after the chapter was announced as winning bidders in April, this year. While a stimulating itinerary is expected for all delegates, Young Members have some tailored activities to help them get more involved, network, learn, compete and present their work on a global stage.
Initiatives include:
- A ‘Young Members and Student Mentors Mixer’ on the first day of the conference offering interaction with industry leaders and peers.
- The IGS Young Members competition where 10 of the world’s best young researchers and engineers will compete for the best Young Members paper award. Plus, recipients of the joint IGS-NA/ASTM/GSI Testing Fellowship will present their work.
- Internship Scholarships available to students, which will cover the full registration fee and accommodation in return for a limited number of volunteer hours.
Dawie Marx, IGS Young Members Committee Lead, said: “We’re keen to involve Young Members in all stages of program development and we will proactively reach out to underrepresented groups in relation to the opportunities available at the conference. The 13th ICG will be the most accessible and inclusive ICG yet.”
