A forthcoming event on soil reinforcement will be available to attend both in-person and online.
IGS-UK-Flyer-IGS-November-2022
The Reinforced Soil Panel Systems at Queensferry Crossing lecture will take place at 6pm UK time on Tuesday, November 15.
Run jointly by the IGS UK Chapter and Transport Scotland, the lecture will examine how reinforced soil systems – including panel systems – have been used on the UK road network for decades.
These inventive systems provide effective and efficient retaining walls on the approaches to bridges and flyovers, including on the approach to the Queensferry Crossing, which was constructed as a replacement for the original Forth Road Bridge.
Lecture attendees will learn how a Macres panel system was employed on the project, including insights on essential system elements and techniques. Speakers Aaron Laing, Contracts Engineer, and Mike Horton, Technical Manager, both for Maccaferri Construction will also show how sustainability benefits were built into the project, via the use of locally-available materials.
The in-person lecture will be held at Traffic Scotland, National Control Centre, in 21 Ferrymuir Gate, South Queensferry, EH30 9QU. A concurrent Microsoft Teams meeting can be joined online here.
++ The IGS UK Chapter AGM will take place on December 1. Check the IGS UK website for updates https://www.igs-uk.org.
