An article exploring the benefits of geomembrane use over concrete in reservoir, canal, and dam applications features in the latest issue of ICID News.
Author Eric Blond, chairman of the IGS Technical Committee on Hydraulic Applications (TC-H), asks, ‘Concrete lining or geomembrane lining: which one works best?’ in the 3rd quarter 2022 edition of the International Commission on Irrigation & Drainage (ICID) publication.
ICID gathers international experts in the fields of irrigation, drainage and flood management to promote sustainable agriculture water management.
Mr Blond’s feature is a further response to a November 2021 article in Water Journal, the contents of which was originally queried by J.P. Giroud and Herve Plusquellec, both of whom provided input to the ICID article. Mr Blond concludes his piece by suggesting a geomembrane-engineered solution is more effective in hydraulic applications.
The article is just the latest effort by the TC-H to share the beneficial uses of geomembranes in canals through webinars or special sessions at IGS or ICID conferences. The next such event will be a talk by J.P. Giroud on ‘Lining canals with geomembranes’ at the 4th GeoAfrica conference next month.
