The Romanian chapter of the IGS launches its first Educate The Educators (EtE) sessions next week.
Teaching staff from at least six universities in Romania are set to learn more about geosynthetics from speakers Pietro Rimoldi, Eric Blond, Patricia Guerra, Martin Ziegler, Gerhard Brau, Oliver Detert and Madalena Barroso in a series of webinars on May 9, 11 and 17.
The IGS EtE program is focused on teaching educators how to incorporate geosynthetics into their existing curricula. The aim is to ensure student engineers graduate with basic knowledge about the benefits, positive impact and applications of geosynthetics.
This is the first such event for IGS Romania, with previous EtE initiatives most recently held in Brazil, Chile and South Africa.
IGS Romania President Ernest Olinic said: “The Chapter is really pleased to host this, our first such event for our country’s educators. I think it’s going to have a very significant impact on promoting the correct use of geosynthetic materials among teaching staff, so that they can share more accurate information with their students.
“IGS Romania initially planned to hold a face-to-face event in 2019, but due to the pandemic we were forced to move it online. However, the advantage of this is we can arrange it over three days which don’t have to be consecutive, and it allows the participation of staff from different universities regardless of location. We expect our first event to be a success and hope that in around two years we can organize an in-person event.”
The free initiative is open to all educators in Romania. For more information, click here, and to register, click here.
