Downtown Cairo is getting set to welcome visitors to the 4th African Regional Conference on Geosynthetics in just a few months.
Organizers at IGS Egypt have confirmed the Cairo Marriott Hotel in the Zamalek area will be hosting delegates at the event on February 20-23, 2023. The chapter has also revealed conference keynote speakers will be Professors Richard Bathurst, Malek Bouazza, and Jorge Zornberg.
Special sessions on barrier systems and hydraulics will also feature at the conference, which is themed ‘Geosynthetics in sustainable infrastructures and mega projects’.
There will also be a first for visitors – enjoying the inaugural Kelvin Legge Lecture at a GeoAfrica conference, one of four new keynote lectures established by the IGS to recognize some of the industry’s most pioneering practitioners.
Secretary general of the organizing committee Mohamed Salah Morsy said: “Preparations to welcome delegates to our city is continuing apace and we’re very excited to share the breadth of geosynthetics projects in our region. The conference will be an ideal time to learn more about how geosynthetics are used in Africa, and the opportunities and potential available for our industry to grow with mega-construction projects on the rise.”
