The window for submitting extended abstracts or full papers for the next 8th Asian Conference on Geosynthetics (GeoAsia8) closes soon.
Submissions must be made by January 31, 2025, for a chance to be featured in one of the most significant regional geosynthetics events next year.
Themed ‘Geosynthetics: pioneering lasting solutions for the Earth’, hosts ACigs, the Australasian Chapter of the IGS, is developing an exciting programme for the event in Brisbane, Australia, on June 10-13, 2025.
Keynote speakers are due to be announced soon but organizers have confirmed all IGS Technical Committees have committed to hosting a workshop or session. Additionally, there will be a dedicated China session showcasing advances in geosynthetics manufacturing and applications.
Several social events including a welcome reception, conference dinner, awards and Brisbane River cruise are in the planning, as well as student events including a photo competition and geomembrane welding contest.
The IGS Asian Regional Activities Committee (ARAC) is also currently considering nominees for the next Fumio Tatsuoka Lecture speaker. The Fumio Tatsuoka Lecture, created in 2022 and to be given at every GeoAsia conference, is in recognition of the eponymous Professor, for his significant achievements in advancing the study of reinforcement geosynthetics.
Also at the conference, the IGS Regional Service Award for IGS chapters in the Asia region will be announced. Nominations for this are also still open, until March 15, 2025. Each Chapter leadership team can nominate one person from their Chapter for this award, in recognition of their exceptional service or achievement at Chapter level.
There are also still opportunities to book exhibition space at GeoAsia8 with the area expanded to meet demand.
Amir Shahkolahi, conference co-chair with Siamak Paulson, and chair of the IGS Asian Regional Activities Committee, said: “We are thrilled to be curating this important event for all Asian Chapters, and beyond, and look forward to bringing together IGS members, manufacturers, distributors, professionals, sister society members and others, to learn, share and connect.
“We will be making more programme announcements soon so watch this space!”
