Learn and collaborate with like-minded colleagues keen to boost diversity and opportunities in the geosynthetics industry at GeoAmericas 2024.
The IGS Diversity Task Force (TF) is hosting a lunchtime session at the forthcoming conference in Toronto, Canada. It will take place on Monday, April 29, as part of the prestigious regional conference which runs from April 28 to May 1.
Speakers will be announced soon – so watch this space. However, attendees can expect an update on the group’s activities since its launch in spring, last year, and its goals which are focused around increasing representation and opportunities for all.
Recent developments include the launch of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Guidelines for IGS Events. The guidance – available here on the IGS Digital Library – explains the value to Chapters and their members in creating an inclusive event, as well as advice on organization, logistics, program content, attracting diverse speakers and audiences, communication/promotion, and more.
IGS Secretary General Laura Carbone, who is leading the Diversity TF, said: “Being ‘Representative’ is one of the IGS’s key strategic goals so we’re delighted the DEI guidelines have been approved by the IGS Council and are now available for all IGS conferences organizers to consider. We are now busy developing a long-term DEI strategy for the entire IGS with the support of an external consultant.
“We also can’t wait to host our session at GeoAmericas very soon, our second such event after we launched the TF with our Diversity Breakfast at the 12th International Conference on Geosynthetics in September, last year. I look forward to seeing you all there for more discussion and inspiration.”
