Set the agenda for one of the IGS’s flagship regional conferences by applying to host the 9th Asian Conference on Geosynthetics.
Bidding is now open for IGS Chapters to host GeoAsia9 in 2029, bringing together civil engineers and their stakeholders from around the world to learn about, discuss and diagnose geosynthetic challenges through debate and discovery.
The GeoAsia conferences draw global audiences keen to learn more about geosynthetic developments in the region. Hosting is an ideal opportunity for IGS Asia Chapters to shine a spotlight on what their area has to offer.
The IGS is looking for Chapters to register their intent to bid by Monday 25 November, 2024. Full and final bids are not yet required.
Amir Shahkolahi, Chair of the IGS Asia Regional Activities Committee, said: “I’m delighted to invite all Chapters in the Asia region to step forward to host this key industry event. GeoAsia 2029 will bring together industry leaders and distinguished speakers to share and discuss the latest technologies and state of the art around geosynthetics. We look forward to hearing from you.”
Bidding guidelines for IGS Regional Conferences can be found here. In addition to these guidelines, bidders should demonstrate how they plan to:
- Maximise the diversity of participants, including a wider range of voices from within and beyond our membership.
- Ensure that the event is representative of the whole Asia region.
- Include program elements that will appeal to wider industry, for example broader outcomes of geosynthetics uses such as sustainability, resilience or economic benefit.
Bidding Chapters may suggest innovations to the format of previous regional conferences.

The winning bid will be announced at GeoAsia8 which will take place in Brisbane, Australia, on 10-13 June 2025, with the theme ‘Geosynthetics: pioneering lasting solutions for the earth’.
