Help shape the future of the IGS by applying to become an IGS Council Member.
The Society is looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals interested in furthering the IGS’s mission, playing a leading role in growing the Society, and getting involved in IGS Committees.
Only six places are available for this prestigious role to cover a four-year term from September 2024 to September 2028. If successful, candidates will become part of the governing body of the IGS, responsible for the management of the Society in accordance with its bylaws, objectives and policies.
It is a busy and exciting role with the opportunity and responsibility to attend all IGS Council Meetings during their tenure. This involves a one-day in-person meeting usually in conjunction with an IGS Regional Conference or International Conference on Geosynthetics, which could take place anywhere in the world. Additional meetings are held virtually two or three times a year.
The role is exclusively for Individual IGS Members. Student and Corporate Members are not eligible.
To apply, submit the following details to igssec@geosyntheticssociety.org:
- Membership number (for verification purposes only)
- Country of residence
- A personal statement of no more than 200 words. This may include a link to an online profile
- A photograph of yourself
All documents should be editable – no pdfs, and please use the email address you used to register IGS membership.
Applications must be received by Friday, February 2. Candidates will be announced on the IGS website and in next month’s IGS Newsletter, including their country of residence, supporting statement and photograph. Voting will be open from mid-February to mid-April – with voting instructions sent via email to each eligible Individual IGS member and each representative from the IGS Corporate membership. Results will be announced at or before GeoAmericas2024 in April.
The first meeting of the new IGS Council is due to take place virtually in September, this year.
For more information or queries on applying or voting, email IGS Secretariat Manager Elise Oatman at igssec@geosyntheticssociety.org.
Good luck!
