On April 27, 2021, the Chinese Chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society (CCIGS) held an online meeting to elect its new officials. More than 50 IGS members attended the online meeting. Dr. Chao Xu, the former Chair of CCIGS and professor of civil engineering at Tongji University, began the meeting by reporting on the activities and achievements of CCIGS in the past five years. Working together with the China Technical Association on Geosynthetics (CTAG), the Chinese Chapter has been very active in the academic, engineering and industrial developments of geosynthetics since 2016. In particular, it has acted as a bridge between the Chinese and the international communities, bringing the technologies and products in China to the world and at the same time introducing new developments to geosynthetic professionals in China. The finances of the chapter were subsequently presented and approved by the participants.
The participants then elected the new chapter officials. Dr. Chao Xu was re-appointed as the chair of CCIGS, while Mr. Baohe Yang, President of BOSTD Geosynthetics Qingdao LTD., was elected as the vice chair. Dr. Huabei Liu, who is a professor of civil engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Dr. Zhijie Wang, who is an associate professor of geotechnical engineering at Shijiazhuang Tiedao University, were appointed as the secretary and treasurer, respectively.
Following the election, the CCIGS members had an in-depth discussion on the planned activities for the following years. The issues of international collaboration in the pandemic, recruitment of new members, and involvement of young professionals were discussed.
Dr. Guangqing Yang, General Secretary of CTAG, hosted the meeting.
