The IGS Chapter in South Africa – the Geosynthetics Interest Group of South Africa (GIGSA) – in the past 21 years has been working towards the growth of the appropriate knowledge of geosynthetics in South Africa at every level, from consultants to contractors, from government agencies to suppliers.
Edoardo Zannoni, current GIGSA Chapter President, announced, “In the past council meeting, the GIGSA Council has approved an R 50.000 (fifty thousand Rand)bursary towards Master and PhD Students studying at a South African University, who are conducting research in line with the Mission of GIGSA, which includes promoting the appropriate use of geosynthetics, advancing geosynthetics knowledge and developing new geosynthetic technologies.”

Supporting their local students is certainly one way to ensure the future of geosynthetics in South Africa. Does your chapter have a bursary or scholarship program? If so we would like to know. Please respond to IGSsec@GeosyntheticsSociety.org.
