Free and reduced student entry to one of the IGS’s flagship regional conferences ends soon.
Organizers of the 5th Pan-American Conference on Geosynthetics (GeoAmericas2024) are offering fee waivers or reduced fees of just $200 entry to all IGS Student members, while the IGS Young Members Committee has eight grants of up to $1,000 for those otherwise unable to attend.
Organized by IGS North America, GeoAmericas2024 takes place on April 28-May 1, in Toronto, Canada, and will explore the theme ‘Connecting State of the Art to State of Practice’. It is a unique opportunity for young engineers to immerse themselves in the latest research, thought and discussion around geosynthetics, including the Zornberg Lecture this time delivered jointly by Vinicius Benjamim and Victor Pimental.
Students will also enjoy networking opportunities and cheer on colleagues in the GeoJeopardy technical quiz.
All IGS Student Members (registered, full-time students) qualify for the event’s Student rate which is 50% off the general member rate. This can be booked directly via the conference’s Registration page.
To apply for one of a limited number of free or reduced entry rates at $200, email GeoAmericas2024 Secretary General Chris Kelsey at general@geoamericas2024.org. Priority will be given to students who have been invited to submit papers or are presenting, and students in Spanish and Portuguese-speaking Americas and their affiliated IGS Chapters because of the Pan-American nature of this regional conference.
Waivers apply only to registration. Students will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements and costs. Successful students will be notified by Wednesday, January 31.
Additionally, the IGS Young Members Committee has eight grants of up to $1,000 to give out to Young Members and Students of Pan-American Chapters. Grants may be used in any way (travel, accommodation) but applicants must demonstrate need. To apply, email youngmembers@geosyntheticssociety.org for more information. Student paper award-winners for this conference automatically receive a grant and need not apply.
