The IGS this year celebrates an incredible four decades advancing, developing and championing geosynthetics around the world.
Founded in Paris, France, on November 10, 1983, the Society has grown from an organisation with just a few Chapters to one with 45, representing 50 countries. Our initiatives have grown from strength to strength together with our ability to better serve the needs of our diverse members.
To mark this momentous occasion, and look forward to what the future holds for our industry and community, we are holding a Birthday Week of exclusive live virtual lectures and Q&As with unmissable speakers from across the IGS family. We’re especially honoured to feature geosynthetics pioneer JP Giroud who coined the terms we are all so familiar with, back in 1977.
The IGS Birthday Week Lectures take place on November 6-10 and are designed to offer a global spectrum of insight into the current state and future possibilities of geosynthetics. Confirmed speakers are due to be:
- JP Giroud
- Jorge Zornberg
- Jabulile Msize
- David Shercliff
- Kasia Zamara
- Fumio Tatsuoka
- Huabei Lui
Every day over Birthday Week will also include an ‘Ask the Officers’ virtual session – your opportunity to have your pre-submitted questions answered live by the IGS Officers, President Sam Allen, Vice President Edoardo Zannoni, Secretary General Laura Carbone, Treasurer Jie Han, and Past President Chungsik Yoo.
Perhaps you’d like to quiz them on aspects of the new IGS Strategy Report 2022-2026 recently released, or you have a burning question about education initiatives in your region, want to get involved in the new Diversity Task Force, learn more about the IGS Sustainability Calculator, or query the opportunities the global geosynthetics market has to offer.
To submit your questions, email IGS Secretariat Manager Elise Oatman at igssec@geosyntheticssociety.org with ‘Ask The Officers’ in the subject line, and your question in the body of the email.
We’ve also created a celebratory IGS 40th anniversary logo for everyone to use. Add it to your email signatures and marketing materials to help raise awareness with your network and mark this historic occasion. Visit our Digital Library to download the logo.
The full schedule for the IGS Birthday Week Lectures, with times and topics, will be announced in due course – so watch this space!
