The Spanish Chapter of the IGS has paid tribute to Pedro Abad Santos who died last month.
Mr Abad, who was the Chapter’s Secretary General and Treasurer, passed away in Mallorca on Friday, April 7.
The Civil Engineer began his professional life in the nineties, with the company Productos Bituminosos, S.A, before working for various companies in the geosynthetics sector, including as Director of Applications of Polyfelt and General Director of Linteco Iberia and CETCO Iberia.
Mr Abad was IGS Spain’s Secretary General and Treasurer since 2006. Among his major contributions were the organization and coordination of EuroGeo5, held in Valencia in 2012, as well as three editions of Geosintec, the Spanish conference on geosynthetics.
In 2019, IGS Spain assumed the Secretariat of the Spanish Technical Committee for Standardization CTN 104 Waterproofing materials for construction and Geosynthetics. Here, Mr Abad was integral in helping the Committee to resume its activity in the regulatory field.
In a joint tribute, Chapter President Beatriz Mateo and Vice President Ángel Leiro, said: “Pedro’s dedication and contributions throughout these years helped the Spanish Chapter increase its visibility in the sector, both nationally and internationally, through its members such as public administrations, companies, manufacturers, installers and sponsors, encouraging the dissemination and technical promotion of geosynthetics. Our thoughts go out to Pedro’s family at this sad time and we offer our sincerest condolences for their loss.”
