The vibrant Canadian city of Montreal has been selected to host the 13th International Conference on Geosynthetics (ICG) in 2026.
The bidding process began last August, when IGS President Chungsik Yoo invited chapters and organizations to submit their proposals to stage one of the most prestigious events on the IGS calendar. Shortlisted bidders virtually presented their vision to the IGS Council on April 7 before a secret ballot revealed the winner.
IGS North America will host the conference themed ‘Legacy, Evolution & Revolution in Geosynthetics’ on September 13-17, 2026, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, also known as Montreal Convention Center.
The chapter explains the theme ‘reflects the many transitions occurring in the field, in our shared responsibility to climate and society, and in how we respond to the challenges and opportunities presented to us by these transitions’.
ICGs take place every four years since their inception in Paris, France, in 1977, with the IGS supporting all ICGs since 1986. Previous host cities have included Vienna, Las Vegas, Guarujá and Seoul.
Planning is well underway for the 13th ICG but you don’t have to wait till 2026 – the 12th ICG in Rome, Italy, takes place next year. IGS Italy has been busy putting together a packed program for the conference, which runs September 17-21, 2023. Find out more here.
