Spanish speakers are set to enjoy a webinar on ‘Geosynthetics in Mining’ later this month.
The IGS Pan American Committee is hosting its first such event in Spanish, where speaker Denys Parra, general manager of Anddes in Peru, will explore the use of geosynthetics in applications such as waste rock dumps, tailings dams, heap leach pads and ponds.
Participants will learn about geosynthetic-to-soil and geosynthetic-to-geosynthetic interface behavior and strengths as well as findings from geotechnical laboratory tests on designing with geosynthetics for mining applications.
Considerations in selecting materials such as geomembranes, GCLs, geomembrane puncture resistance, geomembrane protection under loads, leachate collection, pipe protection, overliner installation, and raincoats for heap leach pads, will be just some of the topics covered.
Civil engineer Mr Parra has 30 years of experience in the industry and has worked on mining projects in Peru, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Bolivia and Panama.
The one-hour webinar takes place in Spanish only on April 22 at 12pm Central Time.
