The Iranian Chapter of the IGS will host speaker Professor Daniel Dias at a virtual seminar next week.
Prof. Dias, professor of geotechnical engineering at Université Grenoble Alpes, will talk on ‘Soft Soil Reinforcement by Rigid Inclusion – Experimental and Numerical Approaches’ at the webinar on March 10.
The lack of good quality soil areas to develop roads, motorways, railway networks and industrial areas means it is vital to find better techniques when working with soft soils.
Prof Dias’s talk will explore the approach of using vertical stiff piles, and will share the results of a French research project in improving soils by rigid inclusions under static loading (ASIRI) and the role of geosynthetics and impact of seismic loading (ASIRI +).
Several examples containing experimental and numerical results will be presented including:
- Real size embankment experimentation with 3D numerical modelling
- Piled and GRPS embankments under cyclic loading
Prof. Dias is currently developing research using limit analysis, numerical modelling and artificial intelligence on:
- Soil structure interaction of geotechnical works (tunnels, dams, retaining walls, pile improvement)
- Combined, cyclic and seismic loading
- Reliability of geotechnical structures
- Geosynthetics as soil reinforcement
The webinar, jointly organized with the Iranian Geosynthetic Society, will run from 4.30pm-6.30pm GMT, and will be presented on Adobe Connect.
