The resiliency benefits of geosynthetics will be in the spotlight at the 12th International Conference on Geosynthetics (ICG).
The ICG is held every four years and will next take place on September 18 – 22, 2022 in Rome. This 12th edition is jointly organized by the Italian Geotechnical Society (AGI) and the Italian Chapter of the IGS (AGI-IGS). Themed ‘Geosynthetics: leading the way to a resilient planet’, it will explore the use of geosynthetics to withstand the impact of natural events often caused by climate change.
Recent developments in the fields of sustainability and resilience will be shared in a series of sessions, talks and networking events on wide-ranging topics including unpaved and paved roads, erosion control and coastal applications, mining, tunnels, and landfills and remediation of contaminated sites. Attendees will hear five keynote lectures, as well as the debut presentation from the new Giroud Lecture speaker.

Professor Nicola Moraci, AGI President, said: “The event will provide all participants with a dynamic and attractive opportunity for a meaningful academic, professional, social and cultural experience. It will cover diverse disciplines of geosynthetics engineering from fundamentals to applications, extending the scope of the conference. The aim is to facilitate learning and dialogue on the key issues faced by geosynthetics communities throughout the world.”
AGI-IGS President Daniele Cazzuffi said: “Despite challenging times due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the organization of 12th ICG is continuing. Keeping in mind the current situation, the AGI is organizing the event with a conservative and cautious approach to face any possible risks. We are particularly focused on attracting young professionals, contractors and sub-contractors, as well as newcomers and experts from developing countries involved in circular economy projects. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our conference and the Eternal City!”
