The next generation of geosynthetics practitioners can enjoy a stimulating program at next week’s 4th Pan American Conference on Geosynthetics.
Dawie Marx, chairman of the IGS Young Members Committee, says attendees to the virtual GeoAmericas 2020 conference from October 26-31 can look forward to a packed social and educational schedule.
Events include:
* October 26, 4pm UTC – IGS Student Award. Nominated individuals from five different chapters from North and South America will present their high-level technical papers during the first part of this session. This tradition is now in its 8th award period (2018-2021). During the second part of the session they will be recognized for their academic achievement by the IGS.
* October 27, 4pm UTC– Young Member Session. This is a technical session for Young Members by Young Members, an opportunity to share projects, technical papers and research in a supportive environment.
* October 29, 6pm UTC – Career Talk with Nathalie Touze, IGS Vice President and Deputy Director at INRAE and Flávio T. Montez, CEO of Huesker North America. Hear what led these inspiring individuals to choose a career in geosynthetics, learn from their successes and challenges, and priceless advice. Young delegates will have a chance to ask questions at the end of the discussion.
* Every day – Young Member Quiz. Delegates can test their knowledge on the conference in a daily quiz with great prizes on offer. The overall winners receive a first prize of entry to the 12th International Conference in Geosynthetics in Rome in 2022, second prize of a $100 Amazon voucher and third wins a $50 Amazon voucher.
GeoAmericas 2020 was due to take place in Rio de Janeiro in April, this year, but health and safety concerns over Covid-19 have seen it transform into an entirely virtual event. World-renowned speakers, short courses, technical events and networking will be accessed through the conference’s dedicated virtual platform and app.
Mr Marx said he was delighted to facilitate such an eclectic program, adding: “The online format means participants from across the world can now benefit from the excellent technical content of the conference. In addition, Young Members will have three great opportunities to network with their peers, as well as learn from experienced practitioners to further their understanding and inform their careers.”
