A message from our President, Chungsik Yoo.
Dear IGS Members,
As you are all aware, the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak has become a global threat to public health affecting our everyday lives. Unfortunately, COVID-19 is continuing to spread globally and affecting all our lives, resulting in school closures, travel restrictions, empty grocery store shelves, cancelled worship services and a near-halt of recreational and entertainment events.
In these unprecedented times, the welfare of our members is paramount.
Over the past few weeks, the IGS Officers have been in constant dialogue with the GeoAmericas 2020 organizing committee. We have made the difficult decision to postpone the April event until October 26-29. This is not a decision we have taken lightly. It is one which ensures the operational and financial integrity of the conference, while protecting everyone’s wellbeing and, ultimately, ensuring the deferred event is a happy, healthy and inclusive one.
We wish you good health and appreciate your support and cooperation in these challenging times. We look forward to welcoming you to Rio this fall, and seeing you at the other conferences in our packed calendar.
Chungsik Yoo, Ph.D.
President – International Geosynthetics Society
