The UK Chapter of the IGS rounded off another successful year at its annual meeting last month.
Held at the prestigious Geological Society headquarters in Burlington House, Mayfair, London, chapter chairman Andy Belton reviewed the previous 12 months for members.
This included a summary of chapter activities in 2019 and an update on memberships and sponsors. There was also a Treasurers’ report and the election of new committee members. The chapter looked forward to its upcoming Symposium, due to take place at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester in May, this year, for which they are also seeking sponsors and exhibitors.
IGS Vice President Nathalie Touze also reprised her lauded Giroud Lecture at the chapter meeting. Entitled ‘Healing the World: A Geosynthetics Solution’, Dr Touze spoke about the vital role of geosynthetics in mitigating some of the world’s biggest challenges.
The UK Chapter’s annual gathering was part of a joint meeting with the Engineering Group of the Geological Society.
