IGS activity has been reinvigorated in Colombia following a face-to-face meeting and keynote lecture.
IGS President Chungsik Yoo traveled to the South American country in September in order to add momentum to an effort to re-launch the local chapter. Chungsik and IGS Colombia Chapter President Mario Ramirez led discussions on chapter initiatives including raising finance and launching a new training element. In addition, the chapter began mapping out new strategies for academic work, the sharing of commercial success stories, event creation, design guides and standardization and regulation.
Chungsik also delivered a presentation, titled: “Geosynthetics Solutions for Walls and Slopes under Extreme Weather Conditions”, at an event organized by IGS Colombia and the Colombian Society of Engineers. An audience of 65 people attended the event in Bogota, which was sponsored by Maccaferri, Pavco, Geomatrix and Gerfor-Propex.
Chungsik said: “We are committed to supporting local chapters in the good work they do across the world. This visit was integral to our efforts to build IGS activity in Colombia. I’d like to thank the chapter members for their positivity and motivation, and look forward to the creation of an exciting agenda for the year ahead.”
