A bumper 350 abstracts have been submitted to GeoAmericas 2020.
The conference’s theme of ‘geosynthetics solutions for a fast-changing world’ has inspired a huge collection of ideas for papers. It is expected some 250 of these will be published.
The 4th Pan-American conference on geosynthetics will be hosted by IGS Brazil and runs April 26 to 29, next year, in Rio de Janeiro.
Tasked with exploring the theme of how we can contribute to modern society in the face of its challenges and demands, members submitted ideas on a range of subjects.
The selected papers are set to ignite debate and discussion, with ideas likely to explore drainage and filtration, solutions for natural disasters, soil-geosynthetic interaction, and geosynthetics’ place in applications including mining, railways and hydraulics.
Successful applicants will find out in February if they have been invited to present at the conference at Windsor Expo Convention Center.
IGS Brazil President André Estêvão Silva expects more than 1,000 delegates from more than 30 countries.
He said: “We were delighted to receive more than 350 abstracts for GeoAmericas 2020 on a range of subjects. From the beginning we had a target of receiving at least 350 and we achieved that! We are confident those that go on to be selected for presentation will provide interesting and thought-provoking content for our attendees. This is going to be a great GeoAmericas.”
