The International
Geosynthetics Society is a
non-profit organization dedicated to the scientific and engineering
development of geosynthetics and associated technologies. Geosynthetics
are synthetic products used in civil engineering, such as fabrics
(geotextiles), flexible membranes (geomembranes), etc. The IGS
has 1901 individual members and 112
corporate members from 68 countries,
as well as 95 student members.
There are 28
national or regional chapters of the IGS representing 87% of
the membership. The membership includes those who are involved
in the teaching, design, manufacture,
sale, use or testing of geosynthetics.
The IGS publishes a newsletter and
promotes the dissemination of technical information on geosynthetics
through its two official journals.
The IGS provides a forum for the exchange of ideas through communications
at IGS Conferences and IGS supported events.
The IGS offers awards and student
awards for excellence in achievement.
The IGSNews regularly presents information and instructions on
the several award programs conducted by the IGS. Please see the
current issues of the IGS News - IGS Chapters are encouraged to
make their members and student members aware of the opportunities
offered by the current IGS Award periods.
